Type Locality and Naming

Type section is in Byans area, SE Kumaun basin along Kali River section. [Original Publication: Mamgain, V.D., and Mishra, R.S., 1989 . Biostratigraphic studies of the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic sediments of Tethyan facies in U.P. Himalaya. Geol. Surv. India, Rec., 122(3), 296-298]

Synonyms: Valdiya and Gupta, 1972 ”Kali Series”; Mamgain and Mishra, 1989, Kali Formation.

Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone to Dolomite: Rusty brown fine-grained quartzite, grey micaceous siltstone, grey limestone, sandy dolomite. 300-350m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable with the Muth Fm / Jamboudiyar Fm.

Upper contact

Gradational contact with overlying the Nabi Fm.

Fossils

Linoproductus cf. cora; Chonetes hardensis var. kashmirensis, Reticularia sp. Caninophyllum sp. Carnia cf. juddivar dawsoni and Lophocaninophyllum sp. (Malviya et al., 1991, Mamgain and Mishra, 1989).
